The German Observatory of the World War II
The observatory was constructed during the Second World War, at the top of Mount Krithina southeast of the village of Velanidia.

The Point of the Observatory
The purpose of this was to serve as a point of observation of Myrtoo and Kytherian Sea, but also as a radio hub of ships and aircraft. His role in the Battle of Crete and in the guidance of the aircraft seems to have been significant.
Access to it is difficult and it is only possible through a hiking trail but visiting it will give you a unique view of the Myrtoo sea, the islands of the Cyclades and even Crete, weather permitting.
